Together with our partners at the National Park Service and NYC Department of Parks and Recreation, we have a force of volunteers from the Rockaways and beyond working to connect daily with thousands of beachgoers from Breezy Point Tip to Far Rockaway. We help to educate folks about the importance of habitat protections and other simple tips to help our nesting visitors which need NYC beaches to survive.
We have programs in schools from K-12, ranging from arts programs to high school citizen science curriculum. To learn more about our education programs or arrange an educational program for your school, please contact our education director, Ciara Fagan, ciara@nycploverproject.org.
We are an unwavering voice for piping plovers and other nesting shorebirds as residents of the Rockaways, Queens and NYC. We support proven science-based solutions to protecting shorebirds, which includes habitat protection. We will continue to serve as a voice for shorebirds at all levels of government from our local elected officials and agencies to federal representatives, to make sure we are doing all we can to protect these magnificent birds.
We will continue to showcase information about the piping plover and other threatened shorebirds. We seek to engage the public with photography and up-to-date scientific information about piping plovers.
