Protecting the Piping Plover

Together with our partners at the National Park Service and NYC Department of Parks and Recreation, we have a force of volunteers from the Rockaways and beyond working to connect daily with thousands of beachgoers from Breezy Point Tip to Far Rockaway. We help to educate folks about the importance of habitat protections and other simple tips to help our nesting visitors which need NYC beaches to survive. 

We have partnered with NYC Bird Alliance, NYC Parks and Jamaica Bay Rockaway Parks Conservancy to expand the youth 'Share the Shore' posters created by Rockaway Peninsula school children. Beginning this year, we will expand work with local schools and camps to help drive awareness for piping plovers and other at-risk shorebirds. 

We are an unwavering voice for piping plovers and other nesting shorebirds as residents of the Rockaways, Queens and NYC. We support proven science-based solutions to protecting shorebirds, which includes habitat protection. We will continue to serve as a voice for shorebirds at all levels of government from our local elected officials and agencies to federal representatives, to make sure we are doing all we can to protect these magnificent birds. 

We will continue to showcase information about the piping plover and other threatened shorebirds. We seek to engage the public with photography and up-to-date scientific information about piping plovers.
