Protecting the Piping Plover

Building on the success of our inaugural 2021 volunteer program, together with our partners at the National Park Service, we have doubled the size of our volunteer force and are connecting daily with  hundreds of beachgoers daily from Jacob Riis Park to Fort Tilden and Breezy Point Tip. We work to keep folks out of nesting areas and follow other simple tips to help our nesting visitors which need NYC beaches to survive. 

We have partnered with NYC Audubon, NYC Parks and Jamaica Bay Rockaway Parks Conservancy to expand the youth 'Share the Shore' posters created by Rockaway Peninsula school children. Beginning in early 2023, we will expand work with local schools to help drive awareness for Piping Plovers and other at-risk shorebirds. 

We are an unwavering voice for Piping Plovers and other nesting shorebirds as residents of the Rockaways, Queens and NYC. We are looking to work with elected officials and agencies alike, to make sure we are doing all we can to protect these magnificent birds. If you are a NYC elected official, or work for one, please reach out to us! 

We showcase information about the Piping Plover and other at-risk shorebirds. We seek to engage the public with photography and up-to-date scientific information about Piping Plovers.
